Body-Mind Centering (BMC) is an integrated approach to movement re-education and hands-on repatterning. This is based on principles that bridge East (in how the body and mind are viewed) and West (using the scientific method in doing research). This approach was developed experientially by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and her students, who then established the School for Body-Mind Centering in Amherst, MA. You can click on Body-Mind Centering Association with this link or email them at BMCA@YahooGroups.com for further information.
BMC is an experiential approach based on the embodiment and application of anatomical, physiological and developmental principles, utilizing movement, touch, voice and mind. The idea is that the mind is expresses itself through the body and its movements, and how the body carries itself and moves directly affects the mind.
Body-Mind Centering is the creative process of meeting and recognizing ourselves through the exploration of this embodiment. We discover ourselves while discovering the process by which these principles work. We uncover ourselves non-judgmentally as we go through the stages of this discovery. Therein lies the route to body-mind transformation.
BMC has wide application in many areas of human activity and psychology. It is being used in dance, yoga, bodywork, physical and occupational therapy, psychotherapy, child development, education, meditation, athletics, and many other body-mind disciplines.
